Announcement and Call for Papers

The second German Stata User' Group Meeting will be held on Monday, 5 April
2004 in Berlin at the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin (WZB). We would like to
invite everybody from anywhere who is interested in using Stata to attend
this meeting.

In the meeting various papers will be presented, but there will also be
room for discussion. Presentations will focus on three main topics:
user-written Stata programs, research and teaching experience using Stata,
and critiques of Stata facilities in specific fields. The conference
language will be English due to the 'international' nature of the meeting
and the participation of non-German guest speakers. (See
http://www.stata.com/support/meeting for the proceedings of other
user-group meetings.)

We are very delighted that Alan Riley, Vice president of Software Development
at StataCorp and Roberto Gutierrez, Director of Statistics at StataCorp will
be able to join us and will inform us about the latest development at
StataCorp.

We are also delighted to have Stephen P. Jenkins from the Institute for
Social and Economic Research at the University of Essex, and Nicholas J. Cox
from the Department of Geography at the University of Durham as
international guest speakers, both well known to Stata users for their
various programs and articles in the Stata Journal.

The academic program is organized by Johannes Giesecke, Humboldt University
Berlin and Ulrich Kohler, WZB. If you are interested in making a presentation
on one of the mentioned topics, please submit an abstract (about 300 words)
by email to [email protected] or [email protected] until 1
March 2004. Presentations should be about 20 min. or shorter.

Once a final program has been put together it will be posted on the web
(http://www.stata.com and http://www.dpc.de) and mailed to the Stata users.

The logistics of the conference are being organised by Dittrich und Partner,
distributor of Stata in several countries including Germany and Austria
(http://www.dpc.de).

Participants are asked to travel on their on fees. There will be a small
conference fee (regular 15 Euro, students 10 Euro) to cover costs for
coffee, teas, and luncheons. There will also be an optional informal meal at
a Berlin restaurant on Monday evening (costs: 15 Euro).

You can enroll by contacting Anke Mrosek by email or by writing, phoning, or
