Others on the list have solved the problem. With hindsight, it clearly 
appears to be bad practice to return results as locals rather than scalars 
(oh yes, I wrote -inequal7-). (Patching this is on the list for -inequal8- 
(among other minor things)?)

A more general comment is that -inequal7- is maybe not the best suited 
piece of software for bootstrapping the gini. In resampling-based 
inference, computation speed can be an issue, and as it computes a long 
series of different indices at each iteration, -inequal7- will tend to be 
slow. To put it differently, it will waste time computing irrelevant 
statistics when you are only interested in the Gini. 

I suggest you consider -ineqerr- that does the bootstrapping for you 
(findit -ineqerr-). For a faster inequality measures calculator (but, 
sorry, not the Gini at present), you may want to have a look too at 
-fastineq- on http://www.vankerm.net/stata/.
