I'd put it another way: -impute- uses regression 
for imputation, which is almost certain to be 
inappropriate for categorical variables. 

Perhaps there is a small issue of nomenclature 
here, in that the name -impute- and the 
summary "impute data for missing values" might 
create the impression of a general command
covering all missing value problems. -impute- 
is pretty general, but not that general.

Perhaps the manual entry [R] impute could 
be tweaked a little to make this clearer.
