I sent this out earlier, and for some reason it has not appeared on the list, although I seem to be getting other messages ok; in any case, I am indeed very appreciative of the help provided me by Nick Cox , Shannon Driver, and Lee Sieswerda.

I am very grateful to Nick Cox , Shannon Driver, and Lee Sieswerda for their time and thoughts on generating a count of a cohort of cows in a pen at their individual exits. All three solutions, -slightly different in resulting count (depending on whether with or without the exiting cow included in the cohort and presence of ties), will get me what I need. I will confess my own attempts had me spinning, and I really appreciate the assistance.

Thank you all very much!
