I think this is one of those cases in 
which you find useful tools most easily not 
so much by a specific search as by browsing 
to see what is available. My impression 
is that functions fall into a continuum 
from those you know you want -- but need
to know the syntax for -- to those which 
would be very useful to you -- if only you 
knew what existed and how it might be useful.
