Having just had Stata/SE 8.0 installed on my PC, I did an -update all- to
get the very latest version. After successfully downloading the executable
this instructed me to type -update swap-. I did this and Stata
automatically shut down and a new instance started up but this contained
two error messages as below. Subsequent start-ups don't give these error
messages but -update- reveals that I'm still using the 02 Jan executable.
Presumably -update swap- is automatically running some script that's
failing, but I've no idea what it contains or why it fails. This problem
is repeatable.. (tried it twice). A new wsestata.bin is present in
C:\Program Files\Stata8, along with the old wsestata.exe and a
wsestata_old.exe (which appear identical).
It's easy enough for me to rename the files myself as you had to do under
version 7, and then the 23 Jan executable runs fine, but anyone got any
ideas why -update swap- won't work for me? I'm working under Windows 2000.
Thanks,
Roger.
