It is hard to give advice if Zhangqunzi does not explain what "But it
doesn't work" means in this context.
sysuse nlsw88 ,clear
ta race ,g(foo)
ren foo* bar*
works perfect for me.

I am trying to rename a current varlist prc1...10 into shrout1....10.
I tried
rename prc* shrout*
But it doesn't work, what command should I use then?
