Thanks, once again, to Kit Baum, a new package, -dummies2-, is
available from the SSC. In Stata type

. ssc inst dummies2
. h dummies2

The package contains two programs, -todummies- and -fromdummies-, that
create indicator variables from a categorical variable and vice versa.
The programs might be useful in situations where you do not want to
use Stata's factor variable notation, but create indicator variables
"by hand". Stata 10.1 is required.

Best
Daniel
