Dear Statalist

I just found an interesting comment from last year (http://www.stata.com/statalist/archive/2011-02/msg01234.html) and I was wondering if there is a specific literature or paper about re-writting mathematically multi-level models into a conventional panel data model? I chose a multi-level model but due to my dependent variable which is left-censored I should consider a tobit model. Therefore, I would like to re-write my equation so that I could use the command xttobit.

Thank you,
Claudia
