Is this some special package of TeX or LaTeX for Stata Mac users that you seek?

I've not heard of one, but others would know more about this.

No; the sjlatex package works on any version of LaTeX, as LaTeX is platform-independent as long as you stay away from proprietary kludges like Scientific Word. I personally like TeXShop (downloadable from Apple website, free), but there are other nifty LaTeX implementations for OS X.
