st: Changing graphregion color in gr twoway with by

Hi statlisters,

I am having trouble changing the graphregion color in a twowar graph
with the by option.  Here's the code I've tried:

twoway (line var1 year, xline(1980 1992 1996)),  by(var2, iscale(*.8)
yrescale xrescale iylabel ixlabel)
graphregion( fcolor(green) icolor(green) color(green) ifcolor(green));

I have tried to fill in every graphregion option that I cam think of
in that graphregion(.) option, but the color of the graph never
changes.  This has been easy for lots of other graphs.

I have also tried the undocumented option bgcolor(<colorstyle>) that I
read about here.  That didn't work either.

Any suggestions about changing this color?
