Nick's Stata+Stat/Transfer program provides an elegant solution!

However, if you cannot guarantee that the second sheet of each workbook is actually named with the default "Sheet2", you should probably use the page number rather than the name in the '/t' switch as in:

inputst `primo', /t2 /y;
