A lot of private mailings are already sent, and you are spared. But every now and again a public one is in order as a preventative measure.
Makes it more efficient.

Someone mentioned something about cultural differences, and I think that's an important factor here. In many corners of cyberspace, lists are about one thing: getting work done. They are not about making friends, or making people feel good.
Good point. I suggest that email to people about violations of StataList protocol should be sent to the sender of the email, not to the list.

I don't really want to have to deal with yet another email in which someone is cyberspanked for sending an attachment to the list or not citing a reference fully enough to make the posting intelligible.

So can we agree that those who feel strongly enough about the subject to remind/inform participants about the conventions of Statalist should do so privately rather than as an email to Statalist.

This would reduce repetitive traffic on the list, while giving the poster some idea as to how their post could be improved.
