Are you using Windows? For some reason Windows users sometimes  
download the new executable but somehow fail to install it. If you  
are still running 9.1, then you did not download and install the new  
executable for 9.2. You can download the 9.2 executable from Stata's  
web site if update believes that you somehow already have done so.  
What does 'about' or 'version' say?

You need to use Stata 9.2 to have full access to Mata's features  
(those which have been added to Mata's language after the release of  
Stata 9).
