As a follow-up:

In stata 8 this

locpoly2 nsaid age if lpuse & inrange(age,40,85),width(1) yline(.4 .5 .6) noscatter xtitle("Age (years)") ytitle(Propor> tion on NSAIDS)

took 5.1 seconds.

In Stata 9 it took 1.5 second

But maybe that is an artifact of something else (e.g., freshly installed the files are all contiguiouis and faster to load or something)? Anyone else notice this?
