This is not Unix or Macintosh-specific at all. The need
for formats other than those provided by MS Office
can arise for Windows users for several reasons, including
specifications of academic journals
putting graphics on the internet
sending materials to people who do not use Stata
and who do not use MS Office
use in TeX/LaTeX documents etc.
desire to avoid MS Office for technical, security,
moral, aesthetic reasons
