I realize this is a trivial problem, but I am rather absent-minded, and

You might like to use the -dolog- package, downloadable from SSC. (Type -ssc describe dolog- to find out more.)

If you install -dolog- and have a do-file, with no -log using- or -log close- statements, then you can simply type

dolog myprog

and Stata will run, creating a file -myprog.log-.

I hope this helps.
