I am about to teach an intensive course on biostatistics using Stata 7.
I would like, however, to be able to demonstrate new features of Stata 8
in class. Is it safe (or possible) for me to install both versions on
the same computer? Is there any risk that doing this might crash my
computer? I cannot afford to have either my computer or Stata 7
software go down in class.

Yes, it is safe. I have kept both versions open and used both versions at
the same time on the same computer without any trouble.
