Dear All

Sorry for asking such a basic question. Where is the definitive reference in the Stata 7 documentation for the use of the \ (backslash) character as an escape character to flag the parser not to expand macros? I can only find -[U] 21.3.9 Constructing Windows filenames using macros-, which does not give an exhaustive list of the uses of \ as an escape character. (I know about \\, \$ and \`, but are there others?) I have looked through the hardcopy index and done -findit- under the keywords \, backslash, escape, and macro, but have not found anything more definitive.

Best wishes (and thanks in advance)

Roger
