st: String Comparison

Hi -

Does anyone recommends a software that allows for string comparison?  We're
using SAS proc compare on two SAS datasets, these two datasets are converted
from ASCII - We'd like to do the comparison at the ASCII level because in
the conversion to SAS we're discovering conversion errors.
