.- help for ^calcmenu^ (STB-56: sbe35) .- Menus for epidemiological statistics ------------------------------------ ^calcmenu^ provides a pull-down menu system for accessing the immediate versions of the @epitab@ commands, via a menu called Epicalc, and also loads the Calculator menu of the StataQuest additions to Stata (if StataQuest has been installed). ^calcmenu^ requires Stata 6 and needs an @update@ of Stata 6 no older than August 1999 in order to avoid problems with the ^more^ function. ^calcmenu^ will not interfere with Stata's normal operation. To use ^calcmenu^, simply type ^calcmenu^ or ^calcmenu on^. This has the effect of causing two new menus to appear in Stata's menu bar: Calculator and Epicalc. To switch off these new menus, you may type ^calcmenu off^. Without StataQuest loaded, the commands under the Calculator menu will not work. For information and installation instructions for the StataQuest additions, refer to Stata's web site by going to @http:\\www.stata.com@ from the "STB and User-written programs" screen of the Help menu. The Epicalc menu: tables for epidemiologists -------------------------------------------- The Epicalc menu can be used to perform the immediate versions of the commands that analyse tables of epidemiologic data, i.e. ^iri^, ^csi^, ^cci^ and ^mcci^ (see help @epitab@ or [R] epitab). All options allowed by ^iri^, ^csi^, ^cci^ and ^mcci^ are available using check-boxes, but we would suggest that the approximate confidence intervals obtained by specifying "Test-based CI's" (all commands) or "Woolf approximation" (for odds ratios in ^cci^, ^csi^) are inferior to the default methods. The Calculator menu from StataQuest ----------------------------------- The Calculator menu can be used to perform the immediate versions of normal tests of means (z-tests), t-tests, tests of proportions, tests of variance and confidence intervals. It also accesses statistical tables (Normal, Student's t, F, Chi-squared, Binomial and Poisson) and contains two calculators (Standard and RPN). Remarks ------- 1. To return control to the Command window, the Dialog box started by either the Epicalc or Calculator menus must be closed by clicking Cancel. Alternatively, one or more input settings may be changed and the same immediate command run again. 2. If a ^more^ condition is encountered (the Results screen fills before the completion of a menu-issued command), it must be cleared using the Go button on the toolbar. (An error message will issue if the keyboard is used.) 3. If the dialog box becomes obscured by the Results or other window, it has to be restored to view using the Dialog button. 4. ^calcmenu^ and ^quest^ should not be on simultaneously, and problems arise if you attempt to run ^quest^ with ^calcmenu^ already on.
