.- help for ^mergein^ (STB-29: dm38) .- A more automated @merge@ procedure -------------------------------- ^mergein^ mergevar mergefile [ mergevar2 ] Description ----------- ^mergein^ automates most of the steps in a match-merge. ^mergein^ makes sure both the master and using (^mergefile^) data sets are sorted in the order of ^mergevar^. If ^mergevar2^ is specified, the using data set is sorted in the order of ^mergevar2^ and the observations are joined based on matches between the two merge variables. ^mergein^ also drops the variable ^_merge^ if it exists in either the master or using data sets. ^mergein^ has some known problems. On datasets with small numbers of variables or observations, ^mergein^ will sometimes fail. In these cases, the original master data set is left in place. Also, merging a small master data set with a much larger using data set can cause problems. ^mergein^ is more robust when the larger data set is the master.
