May be I am missing something in data visualization, but is there any
reason -twoway contour- does not accept the grayscale colors, and
substitutes red color instead?

sysuse auto, clear
* this is fine
twoway contour mpg weight length, scolor( navy ) ecolor( red ) levels(5)
* this is fine, too
twoway contour mpg weight length, scolor( khaki ) ecolor( dkgreen ) levels(5)
* none of the following work as expected
twoway contour mpg weight length, scolor( gs14 ) ecolor( red ) levels(5)
twoway contour mpg weight length, scolor( dimgray ) ecolor( dkgreen ) levels(5)
twoway contour mpg weight length, scolor( khaki ) ecolor( white) levels(5)

If anything, red color should never be the default for
color-blindness-friendliness purposes.
