Than you did not do exactly what I told you to do, because then there
would be no default legend to show up. Please give us the exact
commands you typed, otherwise we cannot answer your question. Here is
an example of how to do that:

sysuse auto, clear
scatter price mpg foreign, legend(off) name(a)
scatter turn mpg foreign, legend(off) name(b)
graph combine a b
*------------------- end example -------------------
