That line

 local vallabel = `"`vallabel'`y' "10{superscript:`x'}" "'

would be better stripped of the = sign.

Done! And thanks for the reference (I've got quite a collection of Stata tips at my ...fingertips now)

Just one more on this: Is there a way to print the superscript with a different size? or with a different font? I'd like to have them a little bigger than how they currently come out on my system.

I tried things like:

"{fontface "Century Schoolbook":10{superscript:`x'}}"

"10{superscript:{fontface "Century Schoolbook":`x'}}"

"10{superscript,fontface "Century Schoolbook:`x'}"

The first two gave me "invalid syntax" errors, while the third "invalid 'fontface'" (I tried several fontfaces).

Thanks,
