st: Marking an axis break

I've made a graph where the axis is labelled with observed values and an
arbitrarily-placed "<LoD" (limit of detection).  Does anyone have a neat
trick to insert a small break, or a pair of ticks, or a Z into the Y
axis to indicate the discontinuity?
