Unless I misunderstand what you want, it is possible to map a two-way
layout crossing two variables to a one-way and use multinomial logit,
and transform between layouts. This is described in R. Darrell Bock's
Multivariate Statistical Methods in Behavioral Research (1974,
McGraw-Hill).
