Thanks to David Muller for a most excellent post, I was able to get
xstata to work for Stata 12 under Ubuntu 12.04 with these simple steps:

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libgtksourceview-2.0.so.0 /usr/lib/libgtksourceview-1.0.so.0
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libgtk2.0-0 /usr/lib/libgtk-1.2.0 # I did it but don't know if it is necessary

sudo apt-get install libgnomeprint2.2-0
