Can you send the output of xtivreg2 and xtreg to the list along with the commands exactly as you used them?  It's impossible to tell what is going on with just the information you provided.

As the Statlist FAQ says, "Say exactly what you typed and exactly what Stata typed (or did) in response. N.B. exactly!"  Full details on how to post to Statalist can be found at http://www.stata.com/support/faqs/res/statalist.html#advice.
