Dear Statalist,

Some of you may be interested in this short course being run at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, UK, 11th-17th November.

The course is now in its fourth year and has proved very popular. The objective of this course is to teach competent Stata users the techniques that allow you to get the most out of Stata and speed up the output of your work.

It is aimed at people, from any discipline, who regularly use Stata for analysis but want to learn how to work more efficiently. It would be particularly suited to those who are about to embark on large analyses and who would like a quick guide on how to automate the repetitive parts of the process

The course is taught by research staff from the Population Studies Department, who regularly use Stata for large-scale analyses using multiple data sources.

We cover a range of topics including:
Creating summary variables and summary datasets; navigating records using _n, _N and subscripted variables, rearranging a dataset using reshape; combining multiple datasets using merge and append, exporting data to a spreadsheet; creating tailor-made publication quality graphs; use of macros & scalars; foreach and forvalues loops; accessing and using stored estimation results; exporting results using user-written commands such as estout; Stata programming and creating custom output using file write.
