Thanks to Kit Baum an update of the -proprcspline- package 
is now available from SSC. This update fixes a bug in how 
-if- and -in- conditions where handeled. This update can
be installed by typing in Stata: 

ssc install proprcspline, replace

or (if you already have the old version installed):

adoupdate, update

-proprcspline- will display a graph that will show the
smoothed development of a categorical variable over another
variable. For example I used it in my dissertation to display 
the distribution of highest attained level of education across 
cohorts in Figure 6.5 on page 119:
