Well, until and unless Sergiy explains how to apply pattern fills to your problem -- in this thread and previously I've signalled my personal dislike of such fills but so be it -- and presuming that colour is out of the question for some reason, then try different gray scales. The gaps I am stacking are the contributions of background variables to the mean total income gap.
