Thanks for your input...seems to be a wide disparity in the time it takes to run different combinations of powers which is was caused my concern...will try it on the MP4 machine and hopefully get a performance improvement. Regards...Jay

Sounds like Stata did not hang but that it just took longer
to estimate the model than you expected. This can easily
happen with -clogit-, especially with a moderate to large
number of higher level observations.
