If you have SAS 9.2 available, it will import files from Stata v10, and preserve labels. I thought SAS had bought dbms copy to kill it, but it seems that SAS has incorporated parts of it, even though it does not support the stand-alone dbms copy very well.

SPSS reads and writes both Stata and SAS files, preserving labels.

and which has the advantage (over DBMS/Copy) that it can be called as a DOS command. The -stcmd- package can call Stat/Transfer from within Stata, and can be downloaded from SSC using the -ssc- command. However, Ben (or somebody) would have to find the money to pay for Stat/Transfer.

I hope this helps.

Best wishes

I know that fdause cannot read SAS labels.

Is there any other way to
transform SAS data into Stata data while preserving labels? I have an older version of DBMS copy that I could use if necessary.

thanks,
Ben
