Thanks to Kit Baum the new Stata module USE10 is now available from SSC.

Use10 allows users of Stata 9 to load datasets created with Stata 10.
No additional software (converters) are required. Users can easily
modify the program to change the rules of how transformation of
formats is performed. Default transformation corresponds to the
strategy of -saveold- in Stata 10. Des10 allows programmers to obtain
information about Stata 10 files in Stata 9.

Requires: Stata version 9.2 all platforms

To install it type:

           ssc whatsnew

in Stata 9

The users who already upgraded to Stata 10 do not need this program,
it is specifically for the users of Stata 9. It is written in Mata,
and thus is not compatible with Stata 8 or earlier.
