Well, -reshape- is mentioned in the -whatsnew- of 11th of August 2008, but
nothing in there points to a cause of the trouble that James has
described...

-which reshape- and -which reshape_10- also highlight recent changes...

That is good to know.  I don't see anything in -help whatsnew- 
documenting a new limit on variable names, so perhaps this is an 
oversight by Stata?
