Hello, since I noticed a certain interest for the historical
development of Stata in recent list postings, let me sumit the
following question to your attention:

I recently came across an old, old stata do-file (should be late-80s
or early-90s), and they use this syntax for what is supposed to be an
IV regression:

reg depvar varlist1 varlist2 (varlist1 varlist_iv)

instead of

ivreg depvar varlist1 (varlist2=varlist_iv)

I don't see this syntax being suggested anywhere in the help files, so
I guess it's not recommended any more, but it works fine nevertheless.
Do you know when and why this syntax was silently dropped?

Thanks for your interest,

Davide
