Generally misleading advice.

The 244 characters limit is only if the string is evaluated using an equals sign or stored as a variable. In this specific case, the string is in a local macro and just needs to be handled without any equals signs.

244 is the magic number for lengths in Stata... Do you know -ds-? It is
undocumented but can be extremely useful in such situations...
