Fredrich asked:

I work with tab-delimited text files with string variables that
sometimes contain quote marks...
How can the data be imported into Stata with all observations and
preferably also with quotes, either single or in pairs?
If you have a copy of Stat/Transfer, change the "ASCII File Read Options/String Quote Character" to a blank. Stat/Transfer will then read your file correctly. If you are using the command processor, for instance on a Unix platform, issue the option:

set quote-char-rd none

which will work as well.

Best,

Steve
