Thanks to Kit Baum, a Stata module to draw pattern-filled area graphs
twoway_parea is now available from SSC. To install, type

 . ssc install twoway_parea, all

To view a demo, type

. do pareademo

The package is reported to be platform-dependent: it does not show the
patterns on Macs, but works on Windows. However the .gph files
produced on Macs are displayed correctly on Windows, thus a Mac user
can generate a bunch of .gph files, then transfer them to the Windows
computer (it also must have twoway_parea installed) replay the graphs
and export to a suitable format.
