Hello,
I need to match merge two datasets, one data is a subset of the other
data at the individual level and contains with extra variable fields.
The data read into STATA without issue, including attached labels. By
all appearances and formats, the variables in question are similar
across the datasets. However, when I match merge on the list of
individual-episode identifiers, no merge occurs. I have tried
combinations and ordering the match merge variables to no effect. By
the way, I do not get an error message. I just get _merge = 1 or 2 and
not _merge = 3.
The variables to match include: lastname, firstname, ssn, incidentdate
I have read the manual and everything else I can find and nothing
hints to me what may be wrong. Any suggestions. Is stata sensitive to
left and right adjusted varables? Is there a problem if the data have
been manipulated in Excel prior?
