That would be answering a different question, with no scope whatsoever
for 
modelling error structure to match the problem. So, what is the
rationale
for recommending it?

Use the Mann-Whitney U test. Put all scores for each mouse in one
columm,
and in second columm specify the group: 1 or 2.

Then:

ranksum score, by(group)
