When you say "data labels", I guess you mean "variable labels". 
(You can -label- data, variables or values.) 

As a variable label can be 80 characters long, there may simply be not
enough space to include them in tables with many other columns.

is there a reason why there isn't an option to put the actual data
labels in the output (regression commands and estout) rather than the
variable name with it's category number?   ... perhaps that is for
another thread
