Hi, Joe,

I once encounter a similar problem, here is some tips, hope can help you

Since you can open your data in another computer, try use saveold command, to save the file in stata 7.0 format.

this will keep your labels.

after that, use your current stata to read this old format file.

good luck

Dear Chuntao,

I did try it. But obviously it does not help to move variable value labels.
My purporse is not how to read the data file, but is to reconstrcut the Stata data set with those valuable "value labels".

Thanks
Joe

Dear All,

I have one Stata data file (probably corrupted or due to system imcompatibility), which cannot be opened in one computer though it can be opened on another computer).

In trying to read the data file on my computer, I copied data from EXCEL into Stata editor and then saved it in Stata format. I also have the variable value label file (in TXT format) generated by the "de" command on the other computer.

I wonder whether there is a simple way to import variable value labels from the TXT file into the current new Stata data file.

Any suggestion is appreciated
Thanks
Joe
