hello,

Has anyone ever had infile stop reading a dataset part way through a file for no apparent reason?

I have tested the dictionaries and the data reads in correctly for the first 3534 lines of the file, and then stops (there are 778,429 lines in the file -- it is hierarchical).
It's good that Bill has found the particular cause of this glitch, but in general this sort of problem often results from non-printing junk characters in your data. Especially beware of files that resided on MS-DOS.

The first step in fixing this problem is probably to open the data file in a text editor and simply issue the 'convert to ASCII' command.
