Clive Nicholas <[email protected]>, and others, have reported
that -adoupdate- is not working with packages obtained from ssc. When Clive
types -adoupdate-, he gets "package no longer available" output that looks
like this:

        . adoupdate, update
        (note: adoupdate updates user-written files; type -update- to check
         for updates to official Stata)

        Checking status of installed packages...

            [1] mypkg at http://fmwww.bc.edu/repec/bocode/m:
                package no longer available

            [2] omodel at http://fmwww.bc.edu/RePEc/bocode/o:
                package no longer available

So do I. So does everybody else.

We are going to have to wait for the fix until Kit Baum to returns.

Here's what's going on:

In order to speed execution of -adoupdate-, Kit created a special file for
-adoupdate- to download that contains a list of all packages on SSC and the
date each were last updated. That speeds -adoupdate- because it can download
just one file, rather than having to go look for a different file for
every package from SSC that you have installed.

Anyway, there's this special file, and it's created on the fly, and right
now, it's broken. Rather than containing what it should, the file contains
lots of "failed to open stream" error messages. Those "failed to open stream"
messages confuse -adoupdate-, and it comes to the conclusion that the package
is no longer available.

I imagine it will take Kit an instant to fix the problem once he's back, and
I've sent him private email telling Kit about the problem in case he's in a
position to fix it remotely.
