Sure looks a mess.
I am definitely not a -merge- expert.
I have two very small suggestions. Others may be able to help
much more.
1. The -destring- does nothing, every time. Forget it.
2. The variables that are -long- in one dataset
and -int- in another dataset are worrying. Identifiers
that are more than 32740 cannot be held in an -int-.
