I like gmail, you can filter all of the statalist emails into one
label/folder. Gmail also automatically groups emails into
"conversations". I have found that most related messages get grouped
correctly. If there are proper subject headings, it is very easy to
delete the ones I am not interested in.

MS Outlook 2003 can also do threading (although it calls it "Arrange by
conversation" just to make it harder to find). I also filter Statalist
messages into a separate folder (I do this based on the "To:" address)
and then thread this folder.
