Dear Stata users

I would like to know how good is Mata in compare with a really low-level language (as C or C++). In order to understand my question I give you my problem: "I have to write a procedure for Multiple Imputation (MI). My framework is a panel-data (longitudinal) and the dataset is huge." I am almost sure that a C-code is the solution for my problem, but Mata could be an alternative for this purpose. I did a search over other possibles software and only R offers a good solution, but anyway I have to write the code in this language, which I am not familiar with.

Thanks in advance for any comment on this.
Rodrigo.
