I find the same thing running WinXP Pro sp2 with fully up-to-date Stata 9.1.

Dear stata listers,

Be careful not to type mata" when you mean mata: (the keys are next to each
other), as this appears to crash Stata and you may lose your work.

I found the problem on Windows XP running 9.1 born 20 Feb 2006. I replicated
it on another machine (still!) running the 15 Sep 2005 build, so I believe
the problem is not new.

In case you think the 'OS for dummies' may be at fault here, I found that
Solaris was only a bit more graceful in telling me I had a mismatched quote
before crashing.

Stata 8.2 says "unrecognized command: mata" and stays happy (but of course
blissfully unaware of the wonders of mata) on both platforms.

Cheers,
Germn
